Project Site:


The site is currently a 60' x 250' horizontally oriented parking lot from southeast to northwest with the remaining of the site being devoted to a future eight story building.

Site is significant being that it is located across a historic landmark of Downton Houston Market Square Park.

Design Intention & Environmental targets:


Scheme A

The approach to this design is to relate to the site of Market Square by carrying the urban green space idea across the project. The experience of transitioning from light to dark spaces as well as interior and exterior spaces is also carried throughout the building. Being that there will be a 80 foot building adjacent to our site the intention of this project is to bring in natural light to desired spaces by using passive strategies like a louver facade and light wells.

Structure Concept:


Structure used is a central concrete core that holds mechanical, electrical, elevators, and fire stairs, providing a sense of order through the levels. Concrete columns lift the masses to create a high ceiling inviting space in the ground level and making the program spaces above ground.
